"The Golden Age of the Arabic Sciences" exhibition
The remarkable blossoming of the sciences in the 13th to 15th centuries had its roots in Arabic-Islamic civilization. “The Golden Age of the Arabic Sciences” is an exhibition that examines the many facets of a fascinating epoch.
Mathematics, medicine, astronomy, geography, chemistry – all of these disciplines made huge advances in the period known as the Golden Age (13th-15th centuries), and in each case the advances were driven by the desire to enrich knowledge and improve the conditions of everyday life. The impulse toward discovery remains much the same today as it was then.
"The Golden Age of the Arabic Sciences" was an exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe that sought to throw light on various facets of the remarkable development of the sciences in the period in question. Some 200 pieces, loaned by 40 different galleries and museums, were on show as part of the exhibition.
- Total – a long-term partner of the Institut du Monde Arabe -
The Mediterranean basin and Arabic Peninsula are two regions where Total has a solid presence, and thus a special attachment. It seemed reasonable, therefore, to join forces with the IMA for an exhibition that showcased the Arabic heritage’s wealth. Total’s aim in supporting events such as “The Golden Age of the Arabic Sciences” is to promote the exploration, understanding and appreciation of past civilizations, with particular emphasis on the scientific subjects that are especially dear to Total as an oil and gas company.
